Between The Lines We Crossed

The hallway held its breath for us like even walls could tell

Two shadows stepping out of place into a private spell.

Your hand was shaking slightly

but your eyes were burning through

like every rule we ever learned

was breaking just for you.

We sat too close for strange

too far from what we knew

the air was thick with almost

with everything we'd do

You traced my skin like scripture

like something meant to stay

and every inch you whispered

was giving me away

I tasted all your hesitation

salt and fire combined

a man divided by his world

but reckless in his mind.

Time didn't move, it shattered

fell heavy at our feet

we were drowning in a moment

we weren't allowed to keep.

After, we lay in silence

but silence wasn't still

It was full of what we didn't say

and everything we will

Now every hug you send me

carried heat beneath the skin

a memory that keeps breathing

a room I'm still trapped in.

Not guilt, not shame, not future

not promises we made

just two hearts lit for seconds

in a life we can't invade.

And God ... if seconds burn like this

what would forever do?

Some doors are never meant to open

But we walked right through.
